Waka Traditional Instant Chai is a dissolvable masala chai powder made from pure Indian black tea and real ground spices — ginger root, cardamom seed, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, and cloves. It contains no added sugar, no sweeteners, no milk powder, no fillers, no artificial solvents, and no preservatives, which means you control the milk and sweetness entirely. A 1/4 teaspoon serving contains approximately 15 mg of caffeine, and the 4.5 oz pouch makes about 195 servings. Vegan.
Mix 1/4 tsp of chai powder with hot water, then add your milk and sweetener of choice and stir. Use a sprinkle for subtle spice or a generous portion for a strong kick. For iced chai, dissolve in hot water first, then pour over cold milk and ice.
What is masala chai?
Masala chai is black tea brewed with a blend of ground spices — typically ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, nutmeg, and cloves — and traditionally served with milk and sugar. Waka's version contains all of those spices plus Indian black tea in a powder that dissolves without brewing.
Why is it unsweetened when most chai is sweet?
Most chai concentrates and mixes arrive pre-sweetened, often heavily, with milk powder included. This one has neither, so you decide how sweet and how creamy each cup is. It also means the spice comes through rather than sugar.
How much caffeine is in a serving?
Approximately 15 mg per 1/4 teaspoon, lower than Waka's black and green teas at about 35 mg and well below coffee. The Dirty Chai, which adds instant coffee, is about 70 mg per 1.5 tsp.
Is it vegan?
Yes. There is no milk powder in the blend, so it is vegan as sold. Add dairy or a plant milk to preference.
Pour 1/4 tsp of chai tea powder into a cup, or adjust the amount to your liking. For hot chai tea, add 4 fl oz of hot water and stir. Top with an additional 4 fl oz of hot water, or hot milk of your choice and mix. For iced chai tea, add 2 fl oz of hot water, stir and top with 6 fl oz of cold water or milk. Adjust amounts to your liking and add ice, sweetener, milk or creamer as desired.
Waka instant coffee contains between 3 mg and 80 mg of caffeine per serving, depending on the roast. Exact amounts by product:
A standard 8 fl oz cup of drip coffee contains roughly 95 mg of caffeine. Waka Medium Roast at the recommended 2 tsp serving contains approximately 55 mg, which is a little over half the caffeine of a typical brewed cup. Use more powder for a stronger cup.

I was looking for a chai mix that had no mushrooms and actually tasted good that I could add my own sweetener(sugar or other sweetener) to. Also, I wanted to add almond milk to it and use it for hot and cold chai. This mix is beyond amazing! You only use 1/4tsp mix for a cup of chai. I use more almond milk and less water than they recommend. But it turns out so good! I was so excited to find something I could actually use! Thank you so much!

I will add when I opened the bag the inner seal ziplock was defective. I’m concerned at how long the tea will remain fresh. This is my first larger bag; I’ve never had a problem with the smaller bag.
