Dark Roast - pretty tasty
Not sure why it was on clearance, but glad it was so I could try it. Took a bit to get the 'recipe' tasting the way I like it but I like it. Would be nice to have an exact spoon or something to measure like the packets are.
Waka Dark Roast Premium Instant Coffee is a freeze-dried instant coffee made from 100% Arabica beans from Colombia. It is a clean-label coffee: no added sugar or sweeteners, no fillers, and no artificial flavors or colors. The 3.5 oz pouch makes about 35 cups at the recommended 1.5 to 2 teaspoons per mug. It is the strongest of Waka's caffeinated roasts, with approximately 75 mg of caffeine per 2 teaspoon serving compared with 55 mg for the medium roast.
Does dark roast have more caffeine than medium roast?
In Waka's case, yes. Dark roast contains approximately 75 mg per 2 teaspoon serving versus 55 mg for medium roast, because the serving is denser. This runs counter to the common belief that darker roasts always have less caffeine, which applies to measuring whole beans by volume rather than instant powder by spoon.
What does Waka Dark Roast taste like?
Full-bodied with a smoky finish and hints of caramel. It is bolder and less acidic than the medium roast, which leans citrusy and lighter-bodied.
How do you make iced coffee with it?
Dissolve the coffee in a small amount of hot water first, then top with cold water, milk, or ice. Instant coffee dissolves best in hot water, so this two-step method gives the cleanest result. A handheld frother also works for mixing directly into cold liquid.
How many cups does a 3.5 oz bag make?
About 35 cups at the recommended 1.5 to 2 teaspoons per cup.
Pour 2 tsp of coffee into a cup. Add 8-10 fl oz of water, stir and enjoy. Adjust the amount of water to make your coffee stronger or weaker based on your preferences. Add milk and sugar to liking. Visit our How to Brew page to learn more.
Store in a cool, dry place.
Waka instant coffee contains between 3 mg and 80 mg of caffeine per serving, depending on the roast. Exact amounts by product:
A standard 8 fl oz cup of drip coffee contains roughly 95 mg of caffeine. Waka Medium Roast at the recommended 2 tsp serving contains approximately 55 mg, which is a little over half the caffeine of a typical brewed cup. Use more powder for a stronger cup.
Every Waka product is printed with an exact "best by" date on its packaging. Waka does not ship any full-priced item with less than three months of shelf life remaining.
