The March 2020 Dalgona coffee craze was only the beginning of what our favorite form of caffeine has in store for us.
With the new year well underway, get ready to broaden your horizons with all the possibilities coffee can bring. Here are the latest coffee trends to follow in 2021:
Coffee has been in Turkey since the Ottoman empire, when the Ottoman governor at the time, Ozdemir Pasa, discovered a drink that was extracted from coffee beans in the year of 1517. He introduced it to the Sultan at that time, Suleiman the Magnificent, and he loved it so much and gave it the seal of approval.
Turkish coffee is made from finely grounded coffee beans to maximize the available surface area, which helps to extract the coffee bean flavor.
The Turkish coffee preparation method includes placing the finely ground coffee into a cezve (a small beaker with a handle) that contains a small amount of water. Sugar is then added to taste, before the final product. The small beaker then gets heated from underneath until the water slowly comes to a boil, and you can repeat the process until the desired amount of coffee is reached!

Vietnam is one of the world’s largest coffee exports, so it’s no surprise that their coffee is also making a worldwide hit in 2021.
Vietnamese coffee is traditionally brewed in a small metal cup over a mug, called a phin, and is slowly but carefully brewed until it reaches a thick, rich consistency with a strong bitter taste.
The intense flavor of coffee is then balanced out with sweetened condensed milk poured into the coffee, and can be served hot or iced!

Recyclable coffee pods
Because of the high production of pods and capsules, 2021 is bringing a newer, more eco-friendly way to continue enjoying your favorite cups of coffee.
Recyclable coffee pods have been the answer to many who were concerned about the amount of trash single cups of coffee are producing each day.
Using 100% recyclable materials, coffee producers have begun their rollouts of recyclable and compostable coffee pods.

Similar to the Keto-friendly bulletproof coffee trend, buttered coffee is becoming the newest way to enjoy your daily cup of coffee.
This DIY version of the bulletproof coffee is high in fat and low in carbs, and can be made using only coffee, unsalted butter, and coconut oil. For a quick and easy recipe, see below:
- 1 cup of coffee
- 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1-2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- Blend all ingredients together until it becomes the consistency of a foamy latte
With health always being a trendy topic, here are some of the ways coffee is turning “healthier” in 2021!
Turmeric lattes first became popular in 2017, for the health benefits this spice has carried for many years. While adding mushrooms to your coffee may sound gross or insane, the preparation of ground mushroom coffee actually ends up taking away any mushroom flavor there may have been to begin with. The medicinal mushroom properties are anti-inflammatory, gut-friendly, and high in antioxidants, making this new wellness trend a quick and easy one to hop onto.
