What is a Molten Cake?
Molten chocolate cake is a popular dessert that combines the elements of a chocolate cake and a soufflé! Molten chocolate cakes, or lava cakes, contain five ingredients: butter, eggs, sugar, chocolate, and flour. This recipe includes one more delicious ingredient - quality instant coffee!
- Cocoa powder for dusting
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 95g dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp of Waka instant coffee
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1. Butter a ceramic ramekin and dust with cocoa powder, shaking out the excess. Then, create a double boiler to gently melt the butter. Add a pinch of salt, vanilla and instant coffee. Mix well then add the chocolate chips.
2. When the chocolate is smooth and glossy, remove from heat and mix to let it cool down. Add the egg, sugar and flour and mix well until there are no more lumps.
3. Bake at 400F for 12-13 minutes. Note oven times vary, so watch it closely! Once you cut into the cake, the middle should ooze out.
