The Dalgona Coffee phenomenon is taking social media by a storm. All of a sudden, everyone loves instant coffee again. Here is how you can make your whipped coffee even tastier.
This frothy coffee recipe has been popular in various countries such as India, Pakistan and Macaou even before everyone around the world started making it; however, South Korea gave it its unique new nickname. The reason behind the name is its resemblance to the look of the South Korean old school toffee candy, dalgona, which is similar to honeycomb toffee.
Dalgona coffee is a beverage made by whipping equal proportions of instant coffee, sugar and water until it becomes creamy like a mouse. You can't make Dalgona coffee using ground coffee beans as instant coffee creates the dense and foamy topping you want. The reason for this has much to do with the drying process of the coffee granules. You can read more about instant coffee here.
After sharing our Vegan Dalgona Coffee a couple weeks ago, we are now upgrading the traditional Dalgona Coffee in a few easy-to-follow steps.
Dalgona Coffee Recipe
To make the perfect Dalgona Coffee you need to maintain a 1:1:1 ratio of instant coffee, sugar and water (we used two tbsp from each). Then, everything is whipped into a creamy, caramel-like mixture using a hand mixer or a whisk.
Ingredients for 2 cups
- 2 tbsp Waka Quality Instant Coffee
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp water
- 3 cookies of your choice
- 1 tbsp mini chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cups milk
Combine instant coffee, brown sugar and water in a small mixing bowl.
Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the mixture for 2 to 4 minutes (longer with a whisk), or until the color turns golden brown and the mixture takes on a thick consistency. Similar to a chocolate mouse.
Place a scoop of ice in 2 cups and top with milk until 3/4 full.
Slowly add the mixture on top of the milk.
Top with cookie crumbles from 1 cookie, sprinkle chocolate chips and add a full cookie for decoration.
Mix before drinking and enjoy!
