Sparkling Iced Americano Recipe Using Instant Coffee

Sparkling Iced Americano Recipe Using Instant Coffee

Here’s another instant coffee recipe for you. This time, we’ve put a twist on the standard Iced Americano using sparkling water and Waka Coffee’s premium instant coffee.

What is an Americano

While the Americano may look like a regular cup of black coffee, it tastes differently and and has different ingredients compared to a regular brewed or drip coffee. The Americano is an espresso-based drink and is made by diluting strong espresso with hot water. Although the espresso is a “shot,” which is equivalent to 1-1.5 ounces of coffee, the Americano is a full sized coffee and can be made using one or two espresso shots with addition of hot or cold water. Compared to regular brewed coffee the Americano has a richer, stronger, and bolder taste even if it isn’t nearly as potent as an espresso shot.

The Americano is largely considered an American drink despite it containing the Italian espresso. This is because most people in Italy prefer the espresso shot with no water dilution. It is believed the Americano was invented during WWII by American soldiers in Europe. Unused to the strong and bitter espresso, they would dilute it with hot water and create a regular sized coffee they were used to.

How To Choose The Best Instant Coffee for this recipe

how to make americano with instant coffee

With a variety of instant coffee brands and options out on the market, how do you pick one that’s the best quality? As talked about in our previous blog, instant coffee can be made with either Robusta, Arabia, or a mix of those two beans. These instant coffee crystals can be made using the freeze drying process or the spray drying process. Robusta beans tend to have a harsh and bitter taste and the spray drying process can create a burnt, bitter taste instead of preserving the true flavor of coffee.

The best instant coffee to resemble the Americano taste would be one made of 100% Arabica beans and made using the freeze drying process. Waka Coffee’s instant coffee fits both those requirements! With its superior instant coffee quality, it is a great choice for all your instant coffee recipes and needs, including this one.
