How to Make a Frothy Instant Coffee at Home

Make this creamy and rich instant coffee right at the comfort of your own home.

Sometimes you need a little coffee foam to spruce up your day (and we all need it right now!). This at-home recipe is perfect for that rich and creamy texture, and it’s also a great arm workout. Let us explain.

Our freeze drying method preserves the coffee’s authentic aroma and depth of flavor. There are lots of air spaces tucked inside the grains and as the coffee dissolves, the air gets let out. Thus, when you pour water onto the granules, there’s foam that forms on the top. It should be no bigger than the volume of the instant coffee stirred in.

We found that whipping the instant coffee with equal parts sugar and water creates an even intenser foam for your daily brew. You can customize it further as you wish.

Recipe for one cup:

  • 2 tablespoons of instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of hot water
  • Milk (your preference)
  • Ice cubes

    Tools used:

    • Mixing bowl
    • Whisk
    • Tablespoon

We hand whipped our coffee foam and that was our workout for the day! It allowed us to control the air and density of the coffee foam. It takes no longer than 5 minutes to see the build up, and you can keep going if you want a denser foam.

Fill your cup with ice cubes and choice of milk then add coffee mix onto your drink. Stir it really well and enjoy the creaminess.

If you taste the coffee foam on it’s own, it’s very bitter and strong. We recommend to try this coffee foam with a slice of vanilla or chocolate cake. It will cut the sweetness and enhance the overall flavors.

Or if you’re feeling very adventurous, try it with other sweet treats you think would pair well with the foam and let us know your thoughts.
