Does coffee puts you in a better mood? The reason might be its cognitive enhancing properties.
It’s no surprise that every year over 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed around the globe. After water and tea, coffee is known to be the most consumed beverage in the world.
Coffee contains a natural stimulant called caffeine. Some coffee contains 30 mg while some contain 300 mg of caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system and boosts brain power. For example, a single cup of coffee can improve your attention and concentration.
The smell of coffee is complex. The heterocyclic compounds present in the coffee are known to influence the complex aroma and flavor of the coffee. The smell of the coffee hits our scent receptors and the aroma triggers memories and good feelings. No wonder, it wakes us up from our sleep. Before you even drink the coffee, the aroma already hits our brain. Studies have shown that coffee can wake us up even if we are sleep deprived. The impact is higher if it's freshly grounded coffee. The aroma of coffee can give you that feeling of pleasure and make you feel good. No wonder it’s called pleasure drug.
Caffeine affects our brain and has psychological effects. It influences neurotransmitters which include dopamine, norepinephrine, and acetylcholine. These affect our mental processing and mood. If you’re in a bad mood, drink a cup of coffee and see its effects. It will relax your mind and cool you down. Even a headache might also be relieved with a cup of coffee.
Coffee contains antioxidant compounds like flavonoids, tannic acid, eugenol, chlorogenic acid, gamma-tocopherol, and scopoletin. Antioxidants have numerous health advantages. They can protect our body from oxidative damages like arthritis, diabetes, cancer, degenerative disorders, and even aging. A cup of coffee can also keep you motivated and gives you a sense of achievement. Want to learn more about the connection between coffee and positive mood? While consuming coffee can have some valuable benefits, over-consumption or addiction can lead to a negative impact. Isn’t it rightly said, “Anything too much is bad”?
Overconsumption of coffee leads to addiction. Once you’re addicted, it is difficult to give up coffee. Similar to alcohol withdrawal symptoms, coffee addicts too face withdrawal symptoms if they give up on coffee. Coffee leads to rise in blood pressure. So those suffering from high blood pressure should be careful of consuming too many cups of coffee.
I am one of those who need a nice big mug of coffee every morning. It lifts the mood and brightens up my day. Opening the jar of the coffee powder itself releases a beautiful aroma. This aroma makes you feel happy and wakes you up if you’re still sleepy. Every sip of the coffee wakes you up, and the adrenalin starts kicking in. If you have a long day ahead, a cup of coffee can get you comfortably through the day.
Here are some DIY’s that you can use in your house to spread the warm coffee aroma and enhance good mood!
In a glass jar or a jelly jar, pour some wax, then some coffee powder. Make layers of wax and coffee in the jar. Light up the wax and coffee jar and your house will smell like coffee heaven. This coffee candle will make your living room smell like a coffee house and who doesn’t like that smell in their house?? It changes the mood in the house to a lively and happy mood.
2. Air freshener
Place a bag of coffee ground in your living room or even in your bathroom. The floating aroma of coffee will lift your mood. You can also place coffee in your car or near the AC vent to spread the smell. The smell of coffee is welcoming and refreshing.
3. Deodorant for your refrigerator
After storing fish or meat in your refrigerator, it can smell really bad. Not just meat, sometimes it smells bad because of leftovers or debris. Coffee grounds can be excellent deodorants. Leave some coffee grounds in the refrigerator for some time, and voila, it has absorbed all the bad smell.
4. Soap or scrub
Garlic, onion, meat, and fish can leave a strong smell in your hands. You can't step out for a party, meeting, or a date with a strong smell in your hand. Use coffee ground with some essential oil and scrub your hand. The essential oil will reduce the intense smell of coffee, and you will have a pleasant smell in your hand.
5. Tea light candle
Take a mason jar or any of your favorite jar, and place some coffee beans in the jar. Place a tea light candle on the coffee beans and light the candle. This will spread a warm and amazing smell in your living room. Make sure to be careful though...
The smell of coffee is definitely a stimulant to your senses. It evokes a happy mood and positive energy in your home. So, the coffee ground can be used as an air freshener and not just for drinking. As a matter of fact, the smell of coffee is loved by even those who hate drinking coffee. You can hate coffee, but not the fragrant, complex smell of coffee.
